Cover Wars The End Result

For those who were part of this past week’s wild ride through the Cover Wars experience with me, I imagine you are curious as to how everything played out…  Here is is the graph as posted by Author Shout which shows how the 10 of us who were all in the running for the top spot, landed.

Now, that we have that out of the way, please allow me to tell you why I believe this was a winning effort!

This was great exposure!  People who may have never heard of me or my books, learned about me!  How cool is that?  And, it was ALL FREE (bonus, right?)

A Haiku Perspective

I was taken out of my comfort zone BIG TIME!  Why? I have never had an issue going to bat for someone else. When I ran a non-profit, I could stand in front of a room full of stone people and squeeze money out of them!  How?  Because I knew the money wasn’t for me and I could “sell” them because I believed in the value of what we were going to do with their money. So, here was the chance for me to go before people and do something like (gulp) ask for support, votes, shares, however that was to play out. I knew I had to believe in the value of not only what I was “pitching” but what people would get for their contributions.

Damn, I picked a fine time to embrace sobriety…

Then there was always the chance I could (WARNING, the F-BOMB about to score a DIRECT HIT)  I could FAIL!  How embarrassing, eh?

Well, guess what, I didn’t fail, I am still sober (beginning my tenth year) and the sun rose this morning, right!  I didn’t fail, because I tried.  The prize might have been the bragging rights, the special feature for a week on the Author Shout site and landing in their archives however there is something MORE important that took place here…

Each and every time someone thought about this contest, cast a vote, share a post, liked a comment or passed along a tweet, there was some major love being expressed.  We are, all of us, in this together.  It didn’t matter that this was the cover of one of my books, it could have been your book cover or that of your best friend, spouse or another favorite author. In reality by us sharing this experience we strengthened the bond we have to our craft, deepened the commitment to supporting each other in our particular forms of self-expression.What a grand community we are!

Be sure to let me know when you are in the arena so that I might lend my support, have your back and celebrate all the joy of who you are, why you do what you do and the end result!

Love you, thank you and when I am ready to do this again, I will let YOU know!

  2. You gave the competition a heckofarun for it and left the rest of the field still tying their shoelaces Annette – You still have bragging rights – And you’ve had a great promotion experience 👍😃

  3. Great perspective to take… I know that I voted for you with about a half hour of the competition remaining, and you had a very slight lead… For the other entry to get so many votes at the last minute suggests to me that FIFA may have organised the vote!

Seriously though, bragging rights for you were secured, and this was far from failure. Next time… 🙂

I’m game for another run at it… and yes, it was rather suspicious, eh? 😉 however I believe that when the time is right, the entire Universe conspires to bring it all about! Cheers! 🙂 AND I am so grateful for your support! ❤

  4. An excellent performance. There is no “failure” in life – only experiments to see how things work – and how to work with a situation when it shows up again. Cheers for your bravery and great showing!

  6. Great way to look at this, Annette – true and realistic!

Did vote two days for you, and thanks to your gumption have entered one of my covers also, scheduled for Feb 7th I think 🙂

  7. I find that very strange. With less than 4 hours to go, you were ahead by 20 votes.

Oh my dear, what I was not aware of was that the voting was from 8am until 8am EST, Sunday to Sunday. What with me announcing that the voting ceased at midnight, what was everyone to think. Obviously this was something the winner knew. I had an email conversation with Author Shout and they schooled me proper that this is information displayed on their site. I had not navigated the site and therefore assumed what I was telling everyone was correct, based upon my understanding that this was a 7 day contest. I started my day at midnight and they begin the contest at 8am and close it exactly one week later. So, I am telling everyone now, should they find themselves in such a position as to be a participant in a future Cover War, they avail themselves of the entire time. As it stands, Ron, everyone did a phenomenal job to bring A Haiku Perspective as far along as it came. I am honored and ever so grateful . I doubt highly there were any shenanigans and am confident that we all did our very best. ❤

      • I actually looked on the site a few times for the time, but didn’t see it either. I wanted it for my initial and subsequent posts. Either I looked in the wrong places or it was in amongst other wording and blended in to well to notice.

  10. I love this cover – intriguing, enigmatic image. Puts me in mind of a captured fairy. I’d love to know how it was done.

Oh gosh! My sister sculpted it to be a Bird Fairy for a festival here in Michigan. I just happened to take a few pictures of it before she turned it over to the gal who commissioned the fairy. Once the festival was over, the organizers threw out all the artwork… However, I was able to use the photo to create my book cover! Glad it spoke to you. ❤
