Canadian free-verse poet, Alfred Wellington Purdy, said, “a ‘collected poems’ is either a gravestone or a testimonial to survival.”
Wow, that’s deep. As a poet, I find that I am writing a lot based on getting through each moment, day-by-day. Guess that’s what Mr. Purdy meant by it being a testimonial to survival.
While Mr. Purdy is famous for his free verse, I find the challenge of Haiku, much more appealing,so here are my thoughts on SURVIVAL. Thank you to Colleen and Ron for the opportunity to allow my poetic efforts to THRIVE!
Daily, people strive
For that which shows they’ve arrived
More than just survive
Setting sights to thrive
The goal of being alive
Strong hopes to revive

I appreciate SOLITUDE, much like this duck here. This is one of the reasons I love going to the park to visit the ducks, it’s one way that I find some SOLITUDE!
