Hugh’s Weekly Photo Challenge Week 22 Group

This goes back a ways… Probably 37-38 years…  I was working for John V. Carr & Son, Custom House Broker at the border of Detroit, Michigan and Windsor, Ontario, Canada. It was our job to process the paperwork for freight that was entering or exiting the country.  As the truck drivers were not expected to have the, sometimes, thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars of DUTY required for importation of the goods they brought in their trucks, our firm would promise to cover it and the shippers or consignees would pay us back, plus our fees.   LOVED that job and LOVED my co-workers. This is part of the day shift (we were a 24/7 operation).

I am the redhead, down front, next to our boss, Dianne.  It was HER birthday, hence the bottle of booze in Mike’s hand.  It’s funny, because all three of the women (me, Dianne and Melanie) actually lived within a mile of each other but didn’t know each other until we started working there. Anyway, here is our motley crew for the GROUP PHOTO CHALLENGE!

  1. What a great memory to share with us, Annette. I bet the bottle of champagne did not last very long. I love looking back at these photos from the 80s. I was a redhead back then as well. 😀

Thanks! Yes, we all became very close. A couple of those in the photo has passed on now but I can remember each of them as if it were yesterday!

I think so. I rang them up a few years ago, just to see if anyone I knew still worked there… A couple of fellows remembered me (I left in 1983). They let me know where everyone else was (dead or alive). Good times and great memories to be sure.
