My parents grew up with chestnut trees, most died from a blight a few decades back. Now, there’s a blight on the orange trees that isn’t responding to attempts to be rid of it. Sad.

When my parents bought this house, back in 1972, every street in our subdivision, was canopied by glorious Elm trees. They were attacked by Dutch Elm disease and 75% succumbed to the blight. The few that survived are magnificent!

It is terrible how suddenly these great creatures can fall. We don’t have elms in Australia but we have wonderful Jarrah trees that suffer from what we call “die back” and we have lost many of these giants.

In Ohio, where I lived for nearly 20 years, their Ash trees were plagued by the Emerald Ash Borer…
