    In 2000, I awoke to a valance over my window. Unfortunately, I don’t have a valance. The problem was, quite literally, inside me. The retina had partially detached from my right eye. Surgery was extensive, and the doctor needed state-of-the-art equipment to fix it. I had to sleep face-down for weeks and have a cataract removed that was caused by lasers. The next year, I had less extensive surgery on the left eye. Almost 2 decades later, I’ve never failed to thank God for the gift of sight.

    That’s what near loss of your senses does to you; it makes you appreciate how easily we take these gifts for granted.
