My response to Charli Mills, Carrot Ranch .99 word Flash Fiction challenge this week. We had to talk about paint in some form or fashion. Be sure to follow Carrot Ranch to be apprised of future challenges! https://carrotranch.com
Yes, this is a true story and why I kept going back for bi-weekly torture for over a decade is beyond me!
I had never had my nails done professionally. But since I was now a female business executive, who did a lot of public speaking, it was suggested that I spruce up the ends of my fingers.
The nail tech was chatty and did a great job! We chose a bright shade of deep pink polish and everything was perfect.
She admonished me to use the side of my finger to open my car door, lest I break the new nails.
Sheepishly, I walked back into the salon a few minutes later. Smiling, she said, “I’ve been waiting for you.”

I was a hot mess. Crying, bleeding and she was holding back a roaring laugh. She actually didn’t book anyone after me, because she KNEW I’d need the extra appointment. I never did THAT again.

Interesting, I have never had my nails done other than for my wedding and even then they were short.

I had never considered it until that time. It was fun, while I did it but now, I don’t believe I would ever go back.

Oh my! I don’t like to wear my nails too long but I get them manicured twice a month and sometimes I do it myself at home in between when I don’t have time to go to the salon. In my family, it’s just something a woman does. My mom took me to the salon to get my first manicure when I was five. ‘Til this day, if I run into family or close friends of the family and my nails (or hair) aren’t done they immediately assume something is wrong, ‘are you depressed?’ or sick or been through some trauma. Ha, ha. I’m not kidding. It can be a bit much at times.

I love it! People would mention that they noticed something different about me, but that they couldn’t quite put their finger on it… I would just grin and think, you don’t know how close you are to figuring it out.
