Charli Mills invited us to take the prompt of longboards and write a 99-word tale. All I kept picturing was a comedy routine where someone carrying a long board of wood kept smacking people in the back every time they turned around. No, I didn’t use the humorous aspect of that memory but I did write about lumber! Thank you Carrot Ranch for the fun!
Frankie let out a deep sigh. No matter how hard he tried, the long boards were too heavy for him to carry. His older brothers, Ron, John, and Al could haul those boards around as though they were toothpicks. When would he be big enough to help his father build houses?
Dejected, Frankie sat down behind the lumber pile and began to cry softly.
“Where’s Frankie?’
“Yeah, we need someone to grab these boxes of nails.”
His older brothers were in trouble and they needed his help!
Frankie dried his tears, grabbed the nails, and ran after the crew.

Thank you, Sue Vincent, for providing such a lovely #writephoto prompt this week. Cascade is the title and both the photo and the title inspired the 99-word story below.

No city holds such beauty. Here, the mind can wander and the body can relax. The birds fill the skies and the deer don’t mind you if you don’t mind them. Make sure your shoes are sturdy for a car cannot traverse the winding path.
The towering trees keep you cool as you pass ferns and other flora. Should you need to rest, there will be an accommodating rock. You are following the song of the water.
As the branches part, you gasp in awe for they reveal the dance between stream and gravity. You’ve found your true soulmate.

As
It dawns
Sunshine bright
The day after
You’re filled with promise
New beginnings, fresh starts
Aware of your inner strength

Such are the gifts of the day after
Humbly you embrace with a grateful heart
