Sue Vincent challenged us this week in her #writephoto prompt with the topic of TOKENS. I chose to relate what happened on my first trip to Las Vegas back in 1988. I was in awe and broke as a joke. So I came up with a clever way of bringing home things with which to remember the trip. Read the story and find out what I did.
Her first trip to Las Vegas was exciting. Such bright lights. Piles of inexpensive, delicious food everywhere. And if you were a gambler, drinks were free (in most casinos) as long as you were actively playing a game. All of this fun ran twenty-four hours a day!
The trip was all-expenses-paid which was great because she wasn’t made of money. Realizing that all the “free” things had a price, in the end, she had to be frugal. She purchased one-dollar poker chips from as many casinos as possible to give to family and friends as tokens of her adventure.

lol I did an Atlantic City bus tour which included a roll of dollar coins for you to use. I’m probably the only person who brought hers back and used them on more sensible things!

I thought so. You wouldn’t believe how many strange looks I received from pit bosses when I told them all I wanted to do was to buy a $1 chip.

Great idea to collect those “lucky pennies” as presents for your friends and family.

It was fun. Of course, everyone asked me if I “won” them for them… Until now it was my little secret.

What a fabulous idea! I’ve only been to Las Vegas once, and that was well over 30 years ago [during an international computer convention]. I wish I’d thought of bringing tokens back.

I have to say, I had friends thought it was pretty strange. But they took their tokens back when they went and used them. A couple of them won some money!

lol – now that’s what I call paying it forward!
