20 years ago, my eyesight was in jeopardy. When I moved, a valance over my right eye moved with me, so I called my optometrist. One quick look, and he was on the phone with the retina specialist. Advanced equipment was needed for the surgery. A year later, the other eye needed retinal surgery, but it wasn’t as difficult.
Had the detachments happened 100 years ago, I would have spent the remainder of my life without eyesight. There isn’t a single day that I’m not thankful for my eyes.
A person who is very nearsighted is more likely to experience retinal detachment. The eye elongates, but the retina shrinks over time.
