Charli Mills charged us with creating 99-word flash fiction using SWIFT PASSAGE as the prompt. I chose to share the events leading to the swift passing of my mother-in-law, Evelyn. Choose to be a part of the writing fun by hanging out at the: Carrot Ranch
From the time they told us she had cancer, five of them all in advanced stages until she died was one week. Of course, we had no idea it would happen that quick. I remember walking in and quitting my job because I knew I would move her in with my husband and me so I could care for her until the end of her days. Who knew I would be back to work in less than a fortnight.
But you know, she said that she wanted it that way. No drawn-out drama. Absolutely no heroics. Death on her terms.

I am sorry for your loss. I’m not surprised she would have wanted her death to be quick, though. My own mother-in-law died quickly, too (of a stroke), and in many ways, I think that was the kindest way for her to go.

This is very poignant, Annette. I think it must be quite a shock when someone passes on so quickly, but probably it is better for the person.

Thank you, Robbie. Yes, it was better for her. I was sad, at the time, for the family who didn’t believe that she would go that soon and kept promising to come to see her when they had time. ❤
