For those who were part of this past week’s wild ride through the Cover Wars experience with me, I imagine you are curious as to how everything played out… Here is is the graph as posted by Author Shout which shows how the 10 of us who were all in the running for the top spot, landed.
Now, that we have that out of the way, please allow me to tell you why I believe this was a winning effort!
This was great exposure! People who may have never heard of me or my books, learned about me! How cool is that? And, it was ALL FREE (bonus, right?)
I was taken out of my comfort zone BIG TIME! Why? I have never had an issue going to bat for someone else. When I ran a non-profit, I could stand in front of a room full of stone people and squeeze money out of them! How? Because I knew the money wasn’t for me and I could “sell” them because I believed in the value of what we were going to do with their money. So, here was the chance for me to go before people and do something like (gulp) ask for support, votes, shares, however that was to play out. I knew I had to believe in the value of not only what I was “pitching” but what people would get for their contributions.
Damn, I picked a fine time to embrace sobriety…
Then there was always the chance I could (WARNING, the F-BOMB about to score a DIRECT HIT) I could FAIL! How embarrassing, eh?
Well, guess what, I didn’t fail, I am still sober (beginning my tenth year) and the sun rose this morning, right! I didn’t fail, because I tried. The prize might have been the bragging rights, the special feature for a week on the Author Shout site and landing in their archives however there is something MORE important that took place here…
Each and every time someone thought about this contest, cast a vote, share a post, liked a comment or passed along a tweet, there was some major love being expressed. We are, all of us, in this together. It didn’t matter that this was the cover of one of my books, it could have been your book cover or that of your best friend, spouse or another favorite author. In reality by us sharing this experience we strengthened the bond we have to our craft, deepened the commitment to supporting each other in our particular forms of self-expression.What a grand community we are!
Be sure to let me know when you are in the arena so that I might lend my support, have your back and celebrate all the joy of who you are, why you do what you do and the end result!
Love you, thank you and when I am ready to do this again, I will let YOU know!

Okay, I am breathing again… Was cruising through my emails this morning and found the one reminding me about the Cover Wars for this week. Why? Because the cover for my last book, A Haiku Perspective is a contender!! Woot Woot.
Okay, breathing again. Here is the link, which allows you to VOTE once a day for a whole week, for, of course, MY BOOK COVER. Naturally, I wouldn’t know if you didn’t but it would be nice, since I am asking nice. (big smile from my heart here). And here is the link http://authorshout.com/cover-wars/
Thank you so much and here is the book cover I am asking you to VOTE (once a day for a week) for.
So, I have a great new reason to visit my local library, in fact, three great reasons! Today, I received an email from Liz Waun, the Adult Literacy Program Coordinator at our library, informing me that all three of my self-published books will be available for check out by the patrons. The Local Author Collection is a brand new service being provided by the library and I am honored to be one of the first authors whose books were accepted.
When the library had the book signing/author event back on October 17th of this year, we were handed a form to submit with one of our books for the expressed purpose of being included in this collection. I was allowed to submit all three of my books, each with their own form. We were told it could be 1-2 months for the decision to be made but it did not take that long.
It is so cool that each new book I write can be submitted at any time. And they do not have plans to rotate books out of circulation, once they are in that collection, they are there. I also asked if anyone throughout our state (I live in Michigan) could go to their library and request my books and was told YES! This means that my family and friends can check my books out of the Westland Public Library without having to drive here because the books will come to them.
Once the section is complete, I will be able to go in and take photographs of something I never dreamed I would see, books I’ve written, available for check out at the library! Check it out…
http://www.westlandlibrary.org the on-line catalog will feature a listing of the books in the Local Author Collection
My heart is so happy and I am as grateful as I can be to Liz Waun and Andy Schuck, Head of Youth Services of the William P. Faust Public Library of Westland, Michigan for this opportunity.
Perspective, it’s all about replacing one thought with another
