Charli Mills presented the Flash Fiction challenge of using the phrase”carry on” in whatever way we feel inspired. I choose to use the phrase as a phrase! Join in the FUN at the Carrot Ranch anytime.

Life doesn’t always play out the way you would like. There will be twists and turns even on the straightest of paths.

Corrie looked at herself in the mirror, almost not recognizing her own face. No longer the face of a child, the face of a young career girl, or even the face of a newlywed. No, this was a face of a woman who had been through the mill, as they say.

As she pulled her hair back into a ponytail, a wry smile appeared. This is the face of a woman who has learned to carry on!

Carry On

TitleCollageHaiku

Mom’s recipe box

Filled with family traditions

Enjoyed once a year

There’s her pumpkin bread

Cinnamon, raisins and cloves

Make it taste so good

Anise cookies, yum

Santas, bells, stars and camels

Frosted and sugared

Make enough for friends

We’ll need lots of hopscotches

They’re the first to go

And if there is time

Make fudge and English Toffee

Fill the cookie tray

Aprons, rolling pins

Laughter, music, heart-felt grins

Wrap up gifting tins

Every single year

Keeping traditions alive

She’s here in spirit
