Casting Calls

There

Were once

Crowds cheering

Performances

She gave on the stage

Lunatics and sidekicks

She nailed the character roles

Always dreamed of Broadway one day

Stardom wasn’t ever a concern

It was work that wasn’t work, just plain fun

When did it happen that life took over

Met the man, took the vows, footlights dimmed

New circle of friends, new career

Her turn in the audience

Decades of twists and turns

Now she is alone

With memories

That Guy

There

Are no

Such things as

Scheduled chores

In my brother’s life

He’s a total pantser

Wakes each day in a sleep fog

Muddles about without a care

Then the clock looks him right in the eye

And the rumble deep inside him screams, NO!

Oh man! Oh man! His muttering mantra

If each job were to take ten minutes

He’d need twenty-seven hours

In every day to keep up

So, things he’s doing now

Are a month behind

It appears that

He’ll catch-up

Never

existence

Oh, appreciate from where you have come

A remarkable journey of life

There were times you were sure you’d die

And times that you wished you would

Moments when you stood tall

Seconds ticked away

Without notice

You’re still here

Breathing

Deep

And

Ready

For even

More adventures

Grabbing for the ring

Every carousel ride

Staying up to wish on stars

Sharing what you have with others

Wearing your best clothes for no reason

Other than you are celebrating life

The

Ebbing

Of her youth

Was evident

Only to the ones

Who never knew her when

She shown like the bright dayspring

Filled with magic and hope’s promise

Emanating through and from her soul

Now and forever shining through her eyes

Vibrant reminder of who she was

A beacon of who she truly is

Her youth is never really lost

It is present in her life

In precious, subtle ways

Heard in her laughter

Felt in her hugs

When she serves

Cookies

Tea

Puff Piece

Just

Today

A dragon

Sat in my yard

Alone in the sun

As if he had no friends

He watched the birds as they flew

I wondered if he’d want to play

I started outside but was afraid

He began crying silent dragon tears

There were little puffs of smoke when he sighed

I went over and sat nearby

We kept our thoughts to ourselves

Watching clouds floating by

Enjoying the breeze

Sharing the love

With a friend

I made

Today
