Not Forgotten

Sue Vincent’s #writephoto prompt this week was the word SHIMMER! Here is my take on the word, not directly the photo. Join her and the other creative folk here: https://scvincent.com/2019/12/05/thursday-photo-prompt-shimmer-writephoto/

“Brush your hair now, Betty. You have a visitor.”

Betty had been placed in the nursing home only a few months ago. Macular degeneration was robbing her of her sight. She was deaf in one ear and could barely hear out of the other. Her doctor said it wasn’t safe for her to live alone.

A visitor! Who could it be? Betty had no family close by. A sister lived in a nursing home in Wisconsin, but she couldn’t travel.

“Merry Christmas from the Salvation Army, Betty!” She looked up from the gift bag, tears shimmering in her eyes.

Moved out of her house

Put her in a nursing home

She can’t live alone

Wants to be in her own place

Doesn’t know they’ve sold her house
