You can talk yourself out

When hope is what you hear

lockup

When she’s scared to admit

The truth of her beauty

She won’t let others see

Beyond surface

It’s easier to hide

Behind a smiling mask

Of layers from her past

Safer that way

No one expects too much

Then she’s not rejected

Innocence protected

Fear’s prisoner

Spends the day looking

For spiders that may be there

And they oblige her

decide

Fear’s only real

If you will let it stop you

Then it scores the win
