It Grows Back

Thank you, to Charli Mills, for this week’s prompt, which takes me on a stroll down memory lane. We had to use the phrase “her crowning glory” and even though it took me a minute, I knew I had to go there. So, for some hair-raising fun, visit the Carrot Ranch.

True story!  My mother was in beauty school and practiced on the heads of all who would allow her to get near them with a comb and scissors. One evening, she went a bit too far, and the results were regrettable. Alas, neither myself nor my husband ever let her cut our hair again. And no, she never finished beauty school.

They went to visit her mother. Both were in need of a haircut. Her mother was enrolled in beauty school and needed to practice on real heads instead of the mannequins.

He went first. Drape in place, the scissors could be heard merrily snipping away. Renegade hairs were whisked off his shoulders, and they pronounced him perfect.

When it came to her crowning glory, her mother was not so attentive. As her husband walked by to get a drink of water, he shrieked in horror. Her mother had replicated HIS cut on the left side of his wife’s head!
