How beautiful it is
When copper-colored leaves
Are all that’s left on trees
Bright blue the sky

Beware the gossip shared
By the chatty west wind
Boring captive leaves limbed
Dishing the dirt

Relentless autumn wind
Turns the rain on its side
Transports leaves brown and dried
Across the yard

While the smaller tree is losing its leaves
The larger tree is still vibrant green
The grass hosts crumbled golden bits
Squirrels hunt for food to store
They grab the healthy leaves
Off the larger tree
To reinforce
Winter nests
From the
Wind
