RANDOM ACTS of POETRY DAY
Whoa! Are they sure they know what they are doing here? Unleashing bards and bardettes from all over the world to explode with poetic joy, any and every where they are? Methinks, this could be one for the books…
or walls…
or coffee houses…
All of you who have a poem or two in your boodle bag, this is day to bring it out for some fresh air! Write it on a wall (okay, write it on a sticky note and LEAVE IT on a wall), sing it in your car or pretend you are part of an invisible flash mob and get it going while you are walking through the mall. Imagine that all the ghosts of poets past, are joining you, one at a time, until your voices are filling the air with verse and rhyme! Dang, you know how to have a good time.

So, you say, you don’t write poetry? What’s wrong with you, didn’t your parents raise you write… Well then, be a presenter of OPP! (Other People’s Poetry) Find a book at the library (remember those places, where you can actually take a book home and not have to pay for it). Or find something online and recite it to your family, strangers at the store, the dog (don’t try it with the cat unless your health insurance is paid in full) or wander into the yard and share it with the flora and fauna!
However, wherever and whenever you can, SHARE POETRY on OCTOBER 7th. Be stealth about it, be quirky, be enthusiastic but most of all BE PROUD to BE a SUPPORTER of POETRY! After all, where would the music industry be if people suppressed their inner poet? Can you think of how many cans of spray paint might never put to use, if urban wall artist didn’t require a place to park their platitudes. I know my drive to work would be far less interesting if not for the gifts of graffiti that make me realize I am grateful I know how to self-publish…
Know what else you can do to celebrate Random Acts of Poetry Day? Gift someone a copy of a book of poetry. Of course, you know I am going to suggest one of mine but don’t let that be where it ends. There are several wonderful poets out there, whose work would brighten the day of anyone. So visit your favorite online retailer and send an eBook ( OF MINE ) AND someone else’s to your Boo!
Be proud to be among those who will stand
And share ama zing poetry, throughout the land
Spread those words outrageous or sweet
Everywhere you can, from the country to the streets
Give from your heart knowing how much you’ll be cherished
Sharing of poetry, ensures this great form of expression
won’t perish!
