She threatened to kill herself because then they would listen. She saw imaginary bugs and was blinded by nonexistent lights. The ceiling was dripping water on her.
Curse words flew like salt from a shaker. Everyone had to stay at least three feet away. She knew the voices in the hall belonged to her family members and everyone was lying when they told her she was mistaken.
They did move her from the nursing home to the psych ward of a local hospital. For observation, they said. All bets are on as to whether they’ll ever see her again.

Oh, this is powerful! In situations like that, it’s so hard to remember that for those people, the voices, the bugs, the water, the everything are REAL. You captured that very well, I think.

Thank you. I have heard it through the grapevine, that she IS back in the building. However, she has been placed on another floor where she has to be escorted off to visit anyone if that is what she wishes. And others need to be escorted TO her when they come to visit.

Sad, but this is a true story. My 90-year-old roomie here in the rehab center. It is exactly what happened to her.
