Welcome to National Poetry Month – No Foolin’

April is National Poetry Month

All month long, we are encouraged to write poetry, read poetry, share it, perform it and celebrate the lives of poets you may know or not know!

The Academy of American Poets has a website filled with ideas, scheduled events and resources for teachers to foster an enthusiasm for poetry!

If you know a poet, check out some of their books…Oh, if you are reading this, you DO know a poet.  My books can be found through my Author Central Page Nine of the twelve books I have available are strictly poetry books. And my most recent book, A Haiku Perspective 2018 is #1 Hot New Release in Japanese Poetry – Haiku on Amazon Kindle.

Thank  you to all who appreciate the work of poets. Thank you to all who celebrate life through the writing of poetry. Thank you to all who believe in the power of words to lift the spirit and spark the imagination.

This is OUR MONTH!

Sucha Deal Weekend A Haiku Perspective 2015

This is the book that started it all, A Haiku Perspective 2015 is my very first book of Haiku Poetry.

Not only was I thoroughly enchanted with finding I enjoyed writing haiku, I also found I enjoyed the process of putting haiku poetry books together. So, here in the final weekend of National Poetry Month, I am offering A Haiku Perspective 2015 for that ever exciting, .99 Kindle Countdown price. This deal will run from Friday, April 28th 11:00am EDT through Monday, May 1st 11:00am EDT.

I had a blast choosing the photo for the cover. This is a Bird Fairy that my sister was hired to sculpt. I took a few pictures before she delivered it to its new owner and thought it would make an intriguing cover photo. The responses have varied from wary to delighted.

Giving credit where credit is due, I have to thank fellow blogger/author Ronovan Hester for his weekly haiku challenges. This is what got me started writing haiku. Once I gave in and joined his merry band of participants, I was hooked!  His two-word prompts offered us the opportunity to be creative.  I have to say, I wasn’t always classy:

Think & Fresh

Frozen spinach sucks

When trying to make salads

Think I will buy fresh

I still participate in those challenges, to perhaps I’ll see you there one day.

Thank you, for participating in my celebration of National Poetry Month 2017! Thank you for gifting yourself and others A Haiku Perspective 2015 and my other books.

Poem in Your Pocket Day

Walk around with a poem in your pocket, do ya?  Well, there is a day celebrated throughout the United States and Canada just made for folks such as yourself…

That’s right, April 27th is THAT DAY!  The American Academy of Poets continues to enjoy National Poetry Month (April) by inviting you to join them, by sharing your poetry, or your favorite poetry all day!  Visit http://www.poets.org for suggestions as well as to find out what others are doing in your area!

The beautiful thing about sharing poetry is that sharing poetry is a beautiful thing!

YES! I am sharing a poem with you, here… This is one I wrote for one of the Ministers in my church in honor of his 50th birthday… As this was written back in the 1990’s he has since forgiven me…

Oh, How Nifty to be Fifty

To have the freedom to say exactly what you mean

And the right to be loud, and cause public scenes

And the fashion sense to wear colors that don’t quite go together

And the forgetfulness to dress inappropriately for all types of weather

And to understand they put rails in showers

And to enjoy doing absolutely nothing for hours and hours

And to appreciate creamed spinach and toast with chipped beef

And to be able to ride the bus without having to give up your seat

And to plan vacations for warmer climate states

And to be the reason most drivers tailgate

And to be truly rewarded for your half century

With major discounts through AARP

And while you’re younger than your children and older than your folks

You’re at the right age for public ridicule and to be the butt of cruel jokes

And yet you may be thinking of all the paybacks you could send

Remember, living well is truly the best revenge!

Sucha Deal Weekend A Haiku Perspective 2016

Poetry is something that is in my head 24/7. I think, dream and speak in poetry. Not just any poetry mind you, generally I’m all about haiku!  Last year, I debuted a book of haiku in honor of National Poetry Month, so I figured I would share A Haiku Perspective 2016 this weekend to continue the celebration.  From Friday, April 21st 11:00am EDT through Monday, April 24th 11:00am EDT, you can enjoy a .99 Kindle Countdown deal on this book.

I filled this book with haiku written for blogs posts, contests and challenges.  There is even poetry that only those who have this book have ever seen. One of my favorites is called: Thanks Dad

The phone rang just now

From hundreds of miles away

He just got the book

Loves the duck picture

You know, it just spoke to him

He said, keep writing

Why this is special, is because he had just gotten his hard copy of PhoKu and was so happy with it that he wanted me to know he was proud.  So, I  wrote a haiku about that call and included it in THIS book.

I got another phone call when he got his copy of A Haiku Perspective 2016. And he takes the books with him when he goes to town and shows everyone how he inspires poetry.  What a guy…  Thanks, Dad!

And thank YOU for enjoying my books!  You never know who could be inspired with a copy of A Haiku Perspective 2016, even you!

Sucha Deal Weekend BooKu

How better to celebrate National Poetry Month, than to offer a Kindle Countdown deal on my Halloween story told in words and pictures. That’s right, from Friday, April 14th 11:00am EDT through Monday, April 17th 11:00am EDT, you can download BooKu – Halloween haiku for a mere .99

Every year, my sister delights the neighbors and visitors for miles around, with her imagination and devotion to all things Halloween. Every year, I take photos of the ever evolving yard to send to our family who can’t be here to see her creativity come to life. Last year, I thought that I should put it into a book, which would make it easier for everyone to enjoy.  The result was BooKu – Halloween haiku.

The haiku was written to fit the personalities of the creatures featured in the photographs. We’re talking whips and chains, rats and bats.  Body-less heads and zombies here! Yeah, it’s a party on our lawn every year. I am thinking they are okay with some of the irreverent verse, as they have not risen to haunt me throughout the rest of the year…

So head on over and grab a copy for yourself as well as gift a few to the boos and ghouls you know who enjoy a spoofy grin!
